4 Days of nothing but awesome shizz!!
Day 1
Arrived at school at 6.50 to see a couple of people already there.. At 7.35 sharp, we left the school to head for Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal.. Squeezed in a 20 seater bus with all our big ass bags for prolly 20-30 mins before arriving.. There, the trainers, Alvin, Alicia, Akasha and James came along with us and after getting the basics done, white cards, passports and boarding passes settled, we got on the ferry to set off for Bintan.. The one hour ride was I would say, quite quiet as everyone was pretty much still sleepy and that we had some China Food show airing on Tv Mobile so most of us slept.. I was still sick so sleeping seemed like a pretty good option for me so I went ahead with it.. Reached Bintan soon after and took a bus to Gunung Bintan.. While on the way, we ate some Indonesian style packed food..
Yeap, upon reaching the foot of the hill, we took a little rest, warmed up and started our hike.. James led the way, following a villager who knew his way around and up.. I was behind James, Syab and Isabel and Raf was behind me.. The hike was cool at first, followed a pavement for a while before veturing of to an untracked path.. Now that was when it all got really tiring.. James was generous enough to give us a lot of rest as he himself was strained by the hike.. About 1 and half hours later, after falling and tripping and facing near death experiences, we reached the top of the hill.. Cool shit.. The breeze was amazing and the air was fresh! I loved that moment, feeling like I was at the top of the world, SUPERIOR to anything else, minus god of course..Then the hike down.. Thought the worst was over, well, I and the rest thought wrong.. Haha!!But the hike down was great too!! Braced ourselves to die any moment I would say.. But it was cool.. Got to drink fresh cool mountain water which tasted great.. So after 4 hours on the hill/mountain, we headed to the campsite on a 1 hour plus long journey.. Upon reaching, I was really amazed at the view that we got, waves fit for surfing crashing, white sand, blue sky.. The view was terrificly beautiful.. But the toilet, a makeshift being a makeshift, wasnt well accepted by us all.. Adding that we were going to spend a night without showering.. Heh.. But all was well when we were started pitching the tent and got to our so called mini campfire..
That night, slept well with the sweet sound of waves crashing on land on our ears.. Kay not so well lah cos my throat was still giving me problems.. Heh..Day 2
Woke up bright and early to watch sunrise.. Washed up and stuffs before waiting for breakfast.. Transported to the mangrove site, that took about 1 hour plus as well so decided to take a short nap.. The view on the way there was OMG!, LOVELY! So snapped a few pics.. Mangrove reforestation was the best event I would say.. Teamed up with Syab, Faqiha, Raf, Berth, Jon and Gabe.. Akasha came a long with us so obviously we had loads of fun.. Haha!! So yeah.. Did the mangrove reforestation quickly cos Jon especially wanted to swim around in the swamp which wasnt that dirty.. Haha!! So all of us chained up using our hands and akasha pulled us all while we were floating.. SWEET boh! So shiok.. Haha!! Having played with water cos we had loads of time to spare since our sampan overtaked the other two we then headed for the beach on the same sampan..
On the way back, we helped to save turtles by letting them go.. 3 turtles to be exact.. Haha!! Fun I tell you!! Kay so wash up wash up, Mattie gave us a pleasant surprise by getting us a place to wash up properly.. Thanks Mattie or else we wouldnt have gotten to bathe for another day.. Headed for the resort but used the fully equipped worker's bathrooms to bathe.. SHIOK!! Haha!! We were noisy lah in bathing but yeah, WE GOT TO BATHE after a rushed lunch.. So then headed off for the Orphanage..
After settling our stuffs, we gave out our gifts to them and played a game or two with them.. To see their happy faces felt really good.. Then on to Field Cooking which went on smoothly thanks to Gabe's expertness.. Heh.. Then on to campire.. Only the boys from the orphanage joined us cos the girls had curfew.. Yeap.. Went ok as well but I thought we could have done better, make them smile and enjoy the night more.. Their performance for us was a lot better than what we did for them, I thought.. They sang Munajat Cinta by Dewa which was really very lovely and touching and I loved every bit of it.. So on to sleeping but before we slept, we had a little BM session for a while haha!! Shall not elaborate on that.. Heh..
Day 3
Woke up bright and earlyto be greeted by yet more fresh air.. Washed up, breakfast and then said our goodbyes to the orphans who were gg to school.. Then we started painting their canteen, painted it green and I thought it looked really nice.. Hopefully they liked it as well.. All went well before the rain started to pour.. But that was a blessing in disguise I would say, since we had no water to clean our painting tools.. So yeah, glad it rained.. Got back to the rooms, packed, cleaned up the place and left for lunch.. AYAM PENYEK indonesian style ROCKS TTM!! It was so good that I bought, tapao-ed the chickens.. =] Haha!! Yeap.. Then it was shopping time and city tour..
The city tour opened my eyes to very critical things that were happening around me at that time..
1 being that the people there were so poor that just 1 dollar would make them really happy,
2 being that the people there are more thankful than most of us Singaporeans, and
3 being that I've been nothing but a big fat ungrateful bitch.. Like seriously, these people, the locals there would do anything and work hard for their bucks.. Us, Me especially, I whine and complain to my dad though I have much more than I actually need.. Upon realisation, I teared up right there and then when Mattie blanja-ed us to corns in a bid to help the lady there with her son.. But I kept my tears from flowing.. I dont want the lady to think that we bought her corns to help her.. They make an honest living and do not accept money donated to them.. They thanked god when they received our huge orders.. I really salute their principle of working hard and sincerely and always feeling grateful for the little things that they have and get.. I pray that god would lighten their burden some day soon cos they really do deserve it..
Then off to a scrumptious dinner at a posh Seafood restaurant.. I loike! Food there, AMAZING! After that, headed off to the resort.. Motivational talk was I waste of time I would say.. In today's context, no offence, but no cert=no future.. I'm sorry.. That's just my view.. But then we got a pleasant surprise.. The trainers and Mr Law specially gave us Fire Works.. LOVELY BEAUTIFUL!! haha!! I loike! So after a long session of debrief, went to our rooms, showered before partaying till 5 in the morning, Singapore time.. Best!! Cos I was the only one to win the PolarBear Hunter game that night.. Haha!! James calls me Actress PolarBear for that.. Haha!! What only.. =p Day 4
Last day, short and sad.. I didnt wanna leave.. Woke up at 7 to have a full breakfast.. Shopped for souveniors later on before playing pool.. The noob(me) WON! Lucky day boh! Haha!! Kay so then lunched, and akasha showed off his stuff before the gift giving ceremony.. Heh.. Danced altogether, the friendship dance before heading off to the ferry terminal.. My legs were heavy.. I really didnt wanna leave the place.. Shared so many memories there and had a whole lot of fun.. Sighs.. But I had to leave.. So boarded the ferry, said goodbye to James at Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, headed to school with the rest.. Camwhored with alvin, akasha and alicia in school.. Helen Choo greeted us with all the other HODs.. The sang the school song.. That point of time, I was already choking back tears.. Really sad lurh.. Then snapped a couple more, said our goodbyes to the trainers whom we may or may not meet before gg home..
I really miss Bintan camp, and I really loved it.. Honestly, I thought that it was the best camp that I've ever been to in my entire life.. The people were freaking GEREK! Learnt a whole lot of meaningful things about life.. Got a whole new perspective on life, no more overspending, no more wasting, more thankfulness and gratefulness towards everything I have in life, family, friends, average wealth and stuffs.. If I was given a wish, I wish I could turn back time just to relive Bintan camp.. Fellow Bintanies, I LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH! There really isnt ANY tour that can bring us back to the wonderful experience that we shared.. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much!
